Today marks the beginning of one of the busiest travel seasons in the country, and the Indiana State Police are ramping up efforts to keep travelers safe.
Operation C.A.R.E. – short for Combined Accident Reduction Effort – seeks to reduce the number of crashes by increasing the enforcement of driving laws such as impairment, seat belts, speeding and young-adult driver licenses.
Operation C.A.R.E. is a year-round effort, but is heavily focused on during the holidays.
The Indiana State Police was a co-founding agency of the program in 1977 and 41 years later, ISP Superintendent Doug Carter says there is no denying that the program has saved lives.
