Dozens of area residents turned out to Vincennes University to honor their loved ones last night.
It was all part of Good Samaritan’s 24th annual Light Up a Life event, which aims to remember those who died while in hospice, or recognize those still living in hospice care.
Jane Russell, Director of Oncology Services at Good Samaritan says hospice can play an integral role at the end of a person’s life. And it had in the life of nearly 500 people whose names were read at last night’s event. There were some names, though, of those still living.
Last night’s event featured a candle lighting ceremony, each flame inside VU’s Green Activities Center representing a loved one of each person holding a candle.
The Annual event is held in November, which is National Hospice Month. Good Samaritan Hospice serves patients in 11 different counties throughout southwestern Indiana and southeastern Illinois.
